The docu-film “Le Radici del Futuro” [The Roots of the Future], created to mark Riccoboni’s 60th anniversary, celebrating the company’s history which began back in 1964 as a small road construction business in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, has been shortlisted for the Premio Film Impresa in the “Innovation, Image & Sound” category.
The Premio Film Impresa, the corporate film awards designed and developed by Unindustria with support from Confindustria, took place in Rome in the magical setting of Casa del Cinema at Villa Borghese, with Riccoboni’s docu-film being shown on Thursday 10th April. The aim of the Premio Film Impresa is to promote, enhance and convey the values of business and their employees.
Riccoboni’s story, as told in this docu-film, is about a small local family-run business that grew to become a holding company. But it is also an epic tale about a family, which starts out thanks to the initiative of a twenty-year-old man, in the Parma Apennines. It is an intimate, family story which also goes nationwide. In fact, Riccoboni’s work has had a profound yet positive influence on Italy’s waste disposal and sustainability practices. Covering challenges won and lost, missions completed and goals still to be achieved, this documentary recounts Riccoboni’s history through its main characters.
The “Le Radici del Futuro” docu-film, produced by Confini Lab, scripted by Francesco Rasero and directed by Stefano Scarafia, describes the evolution of the Riccoboni Group, which expanded its business over the years, becoming a key player in the environmental management sector, with a special focus on sustainability and adopting the innovations introduced into waste treatment and remediation of contaminated sites. It features several different speakers, combining archive images with footage from today, to explain the company’s origins, a history of growth and a future all about sustainability.
“The use of ‘found footage’ was interesting, a cinematic technique involving reusing and reassembling existing images to tell a story”, explained Mario Sesti, the artistic director of Premio Film Impresa. “Using this technique, the producers tell the true story of a small business that grew to become a holding company and the enterprise of a 20-year-old man from the Parma Apennines with humour, various materials and a good pace. The result is more effective than just a mere celebration”.
“I was extremely pleased to see our story shown on screens at an important film award”, declared Angelo Riccoboni, the President and CEO of Riccoboni Holding. “It is definitely a recognition of the founder’s vision, Ernesto Riccoboni, who led the company to adopt an integrated approach to environmental management, developing mobile systems for treating used mud as far back as the 1970s. “Le Radici del Futuro” is also a strong message about the future of environmental sustainability and the importance of a circular economy. We think a docu-film is a powerful communication tool for conveying values, stories and visions by telling the story of a company that has been able to innovate in the environmental sector in Italy and which is ready to tackle new challenges”.
