8TH CITY OF ALESSANDRIA NATIONAL WHEELCHAIR TENNIS TOURNAMENT ARE BACK IN SEPTEMBER
It was a busy September with all the sports events promoted and supported by the Riccoboni Group: the second “Riccoboni-the Environment at Play” Under-14 Basketball Trophy and the 8th City of Alessandria “Eugenio Taverna Memorial” National Wheelchair Tennis Tournament.
The under-14 teams of Derthona Basket and Asd Basket Club Serravalle battled it out this year for the “Riccoboni Trophy” on the renovated basketball court in the Castelferro district of Predosa. Derthona Basket took home the trophy, winning 68 to 59 after a hard-fought game.
This celebration of sport aims to draw attention to the urban regeneration project promoted by the Denegri Leisure Centre in Castelferro with support from the Municipality of Predosa and the Riccoboni Group, involving the redevelopment of an open urban space which helps people get together and encourages social inclusion.
The game was attended by Ilaria Riccoboni, Maura Pastorino, the Mayor of Predosa, Giancarlo Sardi, the Chairman of the Denegri Leisure Centre, and Monsignor Guido Gallese, the bishop of Alessandria.
Throughout the day, the young athletes taking part in the trophy were also able to try their hand at various environmental awareness and education activities offered by the Riccoboni Group.
Roberto Toso won the men’s event at the 8th City of Alessandria “Eugenio Taverna Memorial” National Wheelchair Tennis Tournament, after an incredibly hard-fought final against Daniel Danila (7/5, 5/7, 7/6) at the renovated Nuova Saves sports centre in Alessandria.
Once again this year, Riccoboni Holding was the main sponsor for the tournament, which saw twenty-two athletes taking part from various regions of Italy, playing over 33 matches across 4 days with singles, doubles and consolation matches in the Open and Quad categories.
“Once again this year, the Riccoboni Group confirmed its partnership as it understands the importance of the event, which represents a historic tournament for wheelchair tennis champions right here in Alessandria”, explained Ilaria Riccoboni at the end of the Tournament. “As a Group, we believe in the sporting and educational values offered by this important event. Over the years of this partnership, we have been able to raise awareness of how important it can be for the audience there to see champions at work who are role models for living, liberation and inclusion through playing sport. This Tournament serves as important proof of the company’s involvement in valuable events for the community in the region”.
